There must have been some kind of connection between the end of my first cross-country road trip in 2019 and the upcoming total eclipse in April 2024 that made me place a mental bookmark about an annular eclipse in Utah in October 2023. The path of the eclipse was to pass right through the heart of southern Utah, which to me was one of the most strangely beautiful places I’d ever visited, and I imagined how cool it would be to see an eclipse in that environment. The idea of meeting there to see it was suggested to some friends, but it didn’t go anywhere and eventually it just sort of faded away. Fast forward to the winter of 2023 where I lack of inspiration must have rekindled the idea and the wheels were truly set in motion. Once I secured the necessary reservations for a state park in Utah that fell beneath the path of the eclipse, the decision was finalized. And, here we go.
