On Monday morning, at our weekly production meeting where I work, someone mentioned that Tuesday was National Pi Day. As you’d expect, a joke was made that about it not being “pie” as in the food and then people looked at me as another joke about making a pie because I’ve said more than once that I’m always using an excuse to make something in the kitchen. So, I said I’d give it a shot.
Making a pie is the one thing I’d purposefully been avoiding. I’d only ever heard about how difficult the pastry is to make. It turns-out they were right!
I asked three friends who successfully make pies on a regular basis, researched numerous recipes online and watched a few videos on YouTube. None of it helped. It all came-out as a crumbling mess. I tried twice and both times it was a complete failure, as you can see in the picture.
My plan is to have one of my friends who make them successfully to make one with me so I can see exactly what the texture should be at each step. It can’t be that hard.
