Shortly after arriving at my campsite in Joshua Tree National Park, I headed out on this trail which had trailheads in multiple points of the campground. The beginning and end of the loop consisted of sandy washes which slowed me down considerably. The central portion however was mostly all along stone paths through the boulders that characterize the park. It was hot and there was no cover along the way, but it’s what I love about the desert, so it didn’t bother me that much. The view southwest from Mastodon Peak is impressive and I was able to see the Salton Sea. Would’ve been nice to see some wildlife along the way, but I didn’t see anything.
