One thing that I discovered during my 2022 road trip is that hiking on sand isn’t any kind of fun. Regardless of whether I tried wearing my hiking shoes, sandals or bare feet, it’s just mostly a struggle that makes achieving any kind of distance a lot of trouble. This walk started along more stable ground through the Playa Trail. When I got to the end, I realize I hadn’t brought one of my roaming stones with me, so I returned to get one and ultimately performed the trail twice. Because the trail was so short, I had decided to just wear my sandals, but then, in typical fashion, I decided to extend the walk to another trailhead across the road. Did I put my shoes on? No, I stuck to my sandals, which were not yet truly broken-in and by the end of the mile-and-a-half hike I had some nice blisters on my feet. Regardless, it was my first hike/walk through an actual desert on the trip, so it was a lot of fun.
